Overview

During my tenure as a Senior Event Technology Professional at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, I supported high profile corporate events, executive meetings, live presentations, galas, press events, and venue based productions that required dependable audiovisual, staging, networking, and technical production support.

Working with AVT Event Technologies, a Freeman company, the role focused on delivering in house event technology services for hotel clients, event planners, production companies, and third party vendors operating inside one of Southern California’s most recognized hospitality and event venues.

The work required a balance of technical execution, client service, logistics, staffing coordination, and real time troubleshooting in live event environments where timing, presentation quality, and reliability were critical.

Hotel and Venue Event Operations

Responsibilities included audiovisual system deployment, projection, live audio reinforcement, staging coordination, video switching, recording, livestream and presentation support, high speed internet provisioning, temporary production systems, ballroom support, breakout room support, and technical troubleshooting during live events.

Technical Focus

The work centered on practical execution, clean signal flow, operator readiness, inventory control, equipment reliability, crew scheduling, and reliable handoff between production, engineering, venue, vendor, hotel, and client needs.

Why it matters

This experience connects directly to Crown Technical Group’s live production consulting work by combining event technology, technical operations, customer service, staff leadership, and calm troubleshooting under pressure.

Technical Scope and Execution

This work required direct coordination between hotel operations, event planners, producers, presenters, technical vendors, and audiovisual crews to ensure each event was delivered on time, in good working condition, and aligned with client expectations.

Responsibilities included managing floor level technical workflows, coordinating equipment logistics, supervising setup and strike operations, reviewing daily equipment needs, maintaining inventory readiness, supporting client walkthroughs, and resolving technical issues before they affected the room or the show.

The role included direct management of a full time team of two event technology technicians, along with coordinating freelance audiovisual crew members brought in to support larger productions and concurrent events. Responsibilities included scheduling, crew oversight, technical support, workflow coordination, equipment readiness, equipment procurement, repair coordination, and maintaining operational consistency across multiple event spaces and production requirements.

Production Challenges

Live hotel and venue production requires technical systems to be ready before the client walks into the room. The work involved balancing concurrent events, short turnaround times, presenter needs, third party vendor requirements, equipment availability, crew assignments, and last minute changes while maintaining a polished client experience.

In this environment, success depended on more than operating equipment. It required anticipating problems, communicating clearly with stakeholders, mentoring technicians, keeping inventory accurate, maintaining professional standards, and making quick technical decisions while the event was already in motion.

Outcome and Impact

The result was consistent event support for clients, planners, vendors, and hotel teams who depended on reliable audiovisual systems, responsive technical service, and smooth production execution.

This experience helped shape the Crown Technical Group approach to live production support: prepare the room, protect the signal flow, support the client, lead the crew, and keep the show moving.
